Recently rejuvenated under new ownership, Efthalou seamlessly blends the charm of authentic Greek dining with modern culinary innovations. Guests rave about the grilled fish of the day, celebrated for its tender preparation and vibrant flavors. As Wendy Lees aptly put it, it’s an "excellent lunch" that perfectly captures the essence of the Mediterranean.
Many visitors, like Iris Elzendoorn, highlight the freshness of the ingredients, which reflect the dedication and love poured into every dish. Efthalou’s commitment to quality shines through, making it a standout destination for those seeking not just a meal but a taste of genuine Greek hospitality. The serene environment, accentuated by the soothing sounds of nature, provides a perfect backdrop for a leisurely dining experience.
Adding to the restaurant’s appeal is its careful balance of innovation and tradition. Melle Visser notes the modern decor and upgraded ambiance, which together create a warm and inviting space. Here, diners can expect flavorsome modern dishes interwoven with beloved traditional recipes, enhanced by comfortable sunbeds and a less crowded beach—an ideal setting to unwind.
The restaurant is not just a feast for the senses; it’s about the cherished memories that arise with every bite. As Chiara De Capitani eloquently expressed, Efthalou takes familiar flavors and transforms them into elevated experiences, bridging the gap between tradition and modernity. With vegetarian and vegan options highlighted on the menu, there’s something for everyone, ensuring inclusive dining without sacrificing quality.
From good wines, such as the delightful Malagousia, to a warm and expert hostess who skillfully recommends dishes and prepares a mean Espresso Martini, Efthalou enriches every aspect of your dining experience. For an unforgettable meal that combines the heart of Greek culture with culinary creativity, Efthalou restaurant is a must-visit. Whether for a special celebration or a casual outing, this enchanting spot promises to leave a lasting impression.
“ Fresh and amazing ingredients. If you want to taste real good, traditional Greek food, this place is the best. You taste the love and care in their food. Amazing service and peaceful with a beautiful garden and with a view of the sea. ”
“ Excellent lunch of grilled fish of. the day. Perfectly cooked and in beautiful surroundings ”
“ We’re Italians living in Belgium who have been coming to Lesvos for 20+ summers. We knew very well the previous restaurant and love authentic delicious food regardless of the source: a brodo di purp in a plastic cup or fine-dining wild abalone from the Brittony coast bring us both incredibly joy and excitement. As the ancient classic philosophers and equally prestigious Disney’s Ratatouille movie teach us, incredible food is about memory: it’s about revisiting simple recollections from the past while awakening all the senses and this restaurant does a great job at it. We are so fortunate that incredible food is everywhere in Lesvos and I believe that this restaurant also manages to take something you know and have eaten and enjoyed a thousand times and twist it on its head and elevate it to its highest possible level. A bit like a fine dining restaurant from Capri opening in Naples, we believe the restaurant took a bold step out of place and arrived with strong ideas (and delicious food) in a place that (rightfully) strongly defends its traditions and authenticity - having suffered for the past years from an increasing development of standardised mass touristic attractions/restaurants. But we believe this restaurant is finding its rightful place within and listening to the locals: its colours, its growing garden, the soft music and closer attention to its surrounding nature (including the cute local cats!), its updated menu economically accessible to everyone (props for highlighting vegetarian and vegan options as well) coupled with its impeccable food makes us believe it should be given a chance. We believe if they keep such a menu affordable to locals and invest even more in the nature/garden within and surrounding the restaurant they have everything to succeed. If this restaurant was in Mykonos you’d have to fight to get a reservation. If it was in Belgium they would be completely booked for months. They took a gamble by opening in a place where food, authenticity and culture are already at the highest possible level, but we think they offer something that can complement it and recommend you try it for a special occasion or more. Good wines (including my favourite Malagousia) and welcoming warm hostess that gives excellent advice and makes a mean Espresso Martini. ”
“ Forget about the reviews from a year ago. This place has a new owner and everything has been redecorated. Added a modern touch to it and expect modern food, full of flavour. Also a few traditional recipes. Really new and soft comfortable sunbeds. Beautiful and not overcrowded beach. If its not to wavy, expect to find alot of fish (also colourful). ”
